How does this program work?
You collect a sample once a month and mail it back to us free of charge.
How much credit will I get?
For each sample you collect you will receive a $20 bill credit (up $240 per year) and a result letter.
Why is the Portland Water Bureau doing this?
The Portland Water Bureau is working to imporve its drinking water treatment and lower levels of lead in water from home plumbing. The new treatment starts in spring of 2022. Collecting water samples from homes like yours helps us track how the new treatment is working.
How will water treatment changes impact lead levels from my home plumbing?
Between spring 2021 to spring of 2022 you may not see much change in your lead results as we are collecting baseline data before we make changes to water treatment. After the treatment plant is in operation (spring 2022), lead results will likely decrease.
